Confirm the item with the seller
Ask for the exact item dimensions, approximate weight and clear photos of its current condition. Find out whether it is assembled, boxed or loose. A wardrobe that looks manageable in a listing may need to be dismantled before it can leave the property. Agree who will do that work; do not assume dismantling is included in a delivery service.
Make sure the seller has agreed to collection by a courier. Get the collection address, a contact number and a realistic availability window. If you are buying through an online marketplace, confirm your purchase arrangements separately: a delivery enquiry does not reserve the item or arrange payment to the seller.
Measure the route through each property
Measure the item at its widest points, including arms, legs and packaging. Then check door openings, hallway turns and stair landings at both ends. For a sofa, the difficult point may be a turn in a corridor rather than the front door itself. Do not rely only on the width of the room where it will eventually sit.
- What floor is the item on, and what floor is it going to?
- Is there a lift, and can the item fit through its door and inside it?
- Are there external steps, narrow gates or a long path from the road?
- Does the building require a lift reservation or a delivery appointment?
- Can legs, shelves or other components be removed safely before collection?
Describe any uncertainty in your enquiry. If access has not been checked, say so rather than marking it as straightforward. Our London courier quote checklist explains the other information to gather before requesting a price.
Agree protection and handling in advance
Discuss who will protect the surfaces and corners and who will supply suitable packaging. Tell the courier about glass panels, mirrors, stone tops, loose drawers or damaged joints before booking. Keep small fittings together and label them so the recipient can identify which item they belong to.
Confirm the level of loading and unloading assistance needed. Do not assume that a particular crew size, room placement, assembly or removal of old furniture is included. If you need any of these, ask whether they can be provided and have them included in the agreed arrangements.
Plan the handover, not just the journey
Have someone available at both addresses and keep their phones accessible. The seller should know which item is being collected and the recipient should know where it will be placed under the agreed service. Clear the indoor route before the collection or delivery window begins.
For street access, consult the current signs and building instructions. London loading arrangements vary by location; TfL's delivery information can help you find relevant guidance. Avoid promising a parking space unless you have actually confirmed it.
Send the details for a furniture delivery quote
Tell Quickmove24 what you are moving, the two addresses and your phone number through our contact form. Include dimensions, floors, lift access and seller availability in the description. We will need to agree the route, timing, price and handling requirements before confirming a booking.
