Describe the contents before arranging collection

Start with an accurate item description, parcel count, packed dimensions and approximate weight. Measure the finished package, not only the object inside it. If you are sending several boxes, list them separately when their sizes or weights differ. Tell the courier about anything fragile, unusually valuable or difficult to handle before booking.

Check that the courier accepts the contents and ask about any packaging conditions. Batteries, liquids, aerosols and other items may need special checks; do not assume that an item can travel simply because it fits in a box. For goods that may be dangerous, consult the provider and the government guidance on moving dangerous goods before making arrangements. Quickmove24 does not promise acceptance of restricted items through the enquiry form.

Choose a suitable box and protect the contents

Use a sturdy outer box in sound condition, appropriate to the size and weight of the contents. A crushed or torn carton should not be relied on for another journey. Leave room for suitable cushioning, protect vulnerable edges and prevent separate objects from knocking against one another.

Fill empty spaces so the contents cannot move freely, without forcing the box out of shape. Close it securely using suitable packing tape. Follow any item-specific instructions supplied by the manufacturer or courier, particularly for fragile equipment. These general steps are not a guarantee against damage or a substitute for the carrier's packing requirements.

Make the destination unambiguous

Remove or fully cover old delivery labels and barcodes on reused packaging. Confirm the recipient's name, building or company name, street address, postcode and contact number. For a workplace, include the reception or goods-in details if those are different from the public entrance.

If you are sending several parcels, identify them consistently, such as “1 of 3”, “2 of 3” and “3 of 3”, and keep a list of the contents. Use any labels or references requested by the courier. Put handling instructions in the booking details as well as on the package; a label alone does not confirm that a special service has been agreed.

Prepare for collection and delivery

  • Finish packing before the agreed collection window.
  • Keep all parcels together in an accessible place.
  • Tell the collection contact how many packages should be handed over.
  • Check opening hours, reception arrangements and delivery appointments.
  • Make sure the recipient can be reached and knows to expect the delivery.

Do not leave parcels outside unless that arrangement has been explicitly agreed. For offices or apartment buildings, share gate codes or access instructions securely with the people handling the delivery, rather than displaying them on the outside of a box.
